Sophomore earns first-team recognition
CORVALLIS – Sophomore guard Mikayla Pivec has earned CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team honors, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday morning.
Â
Pivec, a BioHealth Sciences major, was named Oregon State Student-Athlete of the Month back in December, and boasts a robust 3.98 GPA. With her selection, Pivec is eligible for Academic All-America honors, which will be announced in March.
Â
A native of Lynnwood, Wash., Pivec has started every game this season at the point guard position for Oregon State. She is shooting 44.1 percent from the floor, and is averaging 11.2 points per game on the year. Her 7.3 rebounds per contest lead all Pac-12 guards, and she leads the Beavers with 138 assists on the season.
Â
Pivec was named to the Maui Jim Maui Classic All-Tournament team earlier this season, and was a Pac-12 All-Freshman selection last year. She has also made her mark with the Oregon State track and field team, throwing javelin for the squad last spring, including a throw of 142-4 at the Oregon Twilight Meet, the fourth-best mark in program history.
Â
As a team, Oregon State moved up to No. 12 in the AP Poll this week, its highest ranking of the season. The Beavers currently hold a record of 21-6 on the season and 12-4 in Pac-12 play.
Â
The Beavers will hit the road this week, as Oregon State heads down to Arizona for a matchup with the Wildcats on Friday.
