February 20, 2018 | Women's Swimming
Beavers will compete at the four-day event starting on February 21
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State University swimming program enters the postseason at the Pac-12 Women's Swimming and Diving Championships this week, hosted at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash.
The four-day event will run from Wednesday, February 21, to Saturday, February 24.
Oregon State will look to build on the momentum gained from the end of the season as the Beavers will be paced by sophomore Felicia Anderson (Portland, Ore.) and junior transfer Arianna Letrari (Bolzano, Italy), who posted a combined six NCAA B Standard times during 2017-18.
Anderson's three B standards came in the 69th Husky Invitational at the beginning of December as she started off the invite with a 54.42 in the first leg of the 400 medley relay as the backstroke specialist. She added a time of 54.48 in the 100 back on day two and closed her run with a 1:59.13 in the 200 back on the final day.
Letrari followed suit during the invite with her first of three B standard times starting from the 200 IM on the first day after clocking a time of 2:00.94, added a time of 53.75 in the 100 fly on day two and ended the invite with a 1:58.55 in the 200 fly.
On the season, Anderson leads the team with 17 top-3 finishes, including several event wins over the last few duals, while Letrari is close behind with 12 top-3 finishes.
The Beavers will also rely on several student-athletes, both newcomers and returners, at the championships.
Freshman Fernanda Rodriguez (Portland, Ore.) stepped up as the breaststroke specialist and ended with six top-3 finishes over the year and posted a season-best 2:24.09 in the 200 breast against UCLA on January 12.
Oregon State also had top performances later in the season from freshmen Riley Neal (Hillsboro, Ore.) and Isabelle Bishop (Davis, Calif.) as the duo turned in their best times while the season progressed.
Neal posted her first collegiate event win in the 500 free against Idaho on January 27 with a time of 5:14.55, while Bishop set season-bests in the 100 back, 200 back and 50 free in the dual against UCLA at 1:01.38, 2:14.04 and 26.36, respectively.
The senior combo of Noemie Midrez (Verviers, Liège, Belgium) and Emma Osowski (Valencia, Calif.) will also lead the way as the two will be competing in their last Pac-12 Championships.
Midrez and Osowski have often posted top times at the championships over the course of the OSU careers. Midrez was part of the 800 free relay squad that set a season best in the 2017 championships, and she also a personal best, at the time, in the 200 free at 1:53.38.
Osowski added a top time in the 200 free at the 2016 Pac-12 Championships after clocking a 1:57.98.
The top 24 finishers in the preliminary rounds will swim in the finals, while all relays are timed finals.
