Oregon State places ninth in 800 free relay to wrap day one
FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – The Oregon State University swimming program took the water for day one of the Pac-12 Women's Swimming Championships on Wednesday at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center and came away with a ninth-place finish in the 800 free relay.
"Although the medley relay team was disqualified, I am immensely proud of the team for going out and being aggressive in their swims," said head coach Jennifer Buffin. "I am looking forward to the individual events tomorrow and seeing how the team responds."
The 800 free relay team of senior captain Noemie Midrez (Verviers, Liège, Belgium), senior Emma Osowski (Valencia, Calif.), freshman Riley Neal (Hillsboro, Ore.) and freshman Callan Jackman (Dublin, Calif.) put together a strong performance en route to clocking a 7:39.58.
Midrez posted a personal best split in her 200 portion at 1:53.29 before Osowski followed up with a 1:58.15 for a season best split.
The 200 medley relay team had good splits going into the final 50 yards, but we ultimately disqualified after one of the Oregon State swimmers were flagged for an infraction after failing to break the surface of the water by the 15-meter mark.
Day two of the Pac-12 Championships will feature three individual events and one relay event. Oregon State will step up to the starting block in the 500 free, 200 IM and 50 free before taking to the pool in the 200 free relay.
