Last Game
Nick Madrigal and Trevor Larnach each hit home runs in Oregon State's 5-2 win over New Mexico on Friday in the season opener. Madrigal ended the day with three hits and three RBI while Larnach was 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Finally Versus Gonzaga
Oregon State was supposed to play Gonzaga twice last season but both games were cancelled due to weather. Saturday's matchup will be the first between the teams since the 2014 season opener in Tempe, Ariz., a 4-3 Oregon State win. The Beavers carry a five-game win streak in the series into Saturday.
Unanimous Top 10
The Beavers open the season as a unanimous top-10 team for the second consecutive year. The 2018 Beavers open the year as the unanimous No. 2 team nationally.
Madrigal Unanimous Preseason Selection
Nick Madrigal, who has been named one of the top 10 position players at the collegiate level, is also a unanimous preseason All-American. He was named the Pac-12 Conference's Player and Defensive Player of the Year, becoming just the second student-athlete to do that in the last 20 years. Madrigal hit .380 with 22 doubles, four home runs, 40 runs batted in and 16 stolen bases in 2017.

• Oregon State is opening play in Surprise, Ariz., for the fourth consecutive season. The Beavers are 20-5 in the 25 games played in Surprise since 2015.
