Gulich Named to Naismith Trophy Late Season List

CORVALLIS – Oregon State standout Marie Gulich has been named one of the top-30 candidates for the Naismith Trophy, as the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced its Late Season Watch List on Monday.

Named in honor of Dr. James Naismith, inventor of the game of basketball, the Naismith Trophy recognizes the top Men's and Women's College Basketball Players of the Year. From the Late Season Watch List, the Naismith Awards Board of Selectors will identify the 10 national semifinalists, to be announced on Feb. 26. Then, four finalists will be revealed on March 14.

Gulich has cemented her place as one of the top players in the nation, averaging 16.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game this season. The senior is shooting 63.4 percent from the floor on the year, and leads the Pac-12 with 79 blocks.

The center from Cologne, Germany became the 21st player in Oregon State history to reach the 1,000 career points mark on Friday, and is among the top-10 in program history in career blocks, career rebounds, career field goal percentage and season field goal percentage.

As a team, Oregon State is ranked No. 15 in this week's AP poll, after moving to 19-6 on the year, 10-4 in Pac-12 play.

The Beavers will return home on Friday to take on No. 7 UCLA. That game is slated to tip at 8 p.m.
