Beavers Primed for Home Opener on Sunday

CORVALLIS – For the first time this season the Oregon State wrestling team will welcome an opponent to Gill Coliseum. On Sunday evening the Beavers welcome in the Roadrunners of California State Bakersfield for a Pac-12 conference matchup beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Last Time Out
Oregon State returns to Gill Coliseum having spent last weekend at the 37th Annual Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. The Beavers placed 19th as a team with 44 points, and had two place winners. Senior Bresser took second place at 125 pounds after falling in sudden victory to No. 2 Sabastian Rivera (Northwestern), while sophomore H. Willits placed eighth at 157 pounds.

CSU Bakersfield
California State Bakersfield is 3-3-0 on the season in dual meets after a 6-10 record last year. The Roadrunners took 32nd out of 43 teams at the Cliff Keen Invite, and lost their last dual at Pittsburgh, 32-4. Last year the Beavers walked away from Bakersfield with a 23-13 win.

Probable starters Bresser, Josh Reyes (149 pounds), H. Willits, Myles Terry (184) and Griego won their individual bouts at CSUB.

Dhesi
It was announced on Tuesday that two-time All-American heavyweight Amar Dhesi will return to Oregon State to complete his final year of eligibility. The two-time Pac-12 champion took the first quarter off of school to wrestle for Team Canada at the Wresting World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Early Season Success
The Beavers have found some early season tournament success to begin the 2018-19 campaign. Bresser placed second at the Cliff Keen Invitational, while H. Willits has a second place finish at the Navy Classic and an eighth place finish at the Cliff Keen. Â Redshirt senior Griego picked up a sixth place finish at the Navy Classic.

At the Mike Clock Open, OSU had eight finish in first place, with four second and third place finishers.
