Oregon State Wrestling Ready for Busy Week

CORVALLIS – The Oregon State wrestling team is back on the road this week to finish out the 2018 campaign splitting duties between the Reno Tournament of Champions and a dual at North Dakota State both on Thursday, Dec. 20.

Beavers in the Ranks
The Beavers enter this week ranked as highly as No. 10 in the tournament rankings by FloWrestling. Tournament rankings are based on how many advancement and placement points a team would get at NCAA Wrestling Championships.

Heavyweight Amar Dhesi debuted at No. 1 in both the TrackWrestling and FloWrestling rankings last week. Three individuals have been ranked all season long for the Beavers, and their current highest rankings follow: No. 3 125-pounder Ronnie Bresser, No. 15 157-pounder Hunter Willits, and No. 20 197-pounder Corey Griego.
Last Time Out
Oregon State dropped a nonconference dual at home to the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State. The dual came down to the final bout before it was decided in the visitors favor. Ronnie Bresser (125) won his 100th career match, while Kegan Calkins (133), Grant Willits (141) and Colt Doyle (174) all claimed individual victories.

North Dakota State
North Dakota State enters Thursday with a 4-1 dual meet record and a 2-1 record in Big 12 meets. The Bison are coming off a 23-14 win over Air Force last week, while their only loss came at the hands of No. 19 Wyoming, 6-29. NDSU boasts a trio of ranked wrestlers; No. 8 Brent Fleetwood (125), No. 17 Cam Sykora (133), and No. 17 Andrew Fogarty (165).

Dual Dominance
G. Willits and Bresser both find themselves unbeaten in dual meets this season. Both wrestlers have dominated their competition in the two dual meets with a pin and a major decision apiece.

Reno Tournament of Champions
The remainder of the team that did not make the trip to Fargo will head to Reno for the Tournament of Champions on Thursday. Last year the Beavers found team success as they claimed fourth place. Dhesi claimed the individual crown, while Griego took third place and Bob Coleman and Bresser placed in fourth.

What's Next
The Beavers are idle until 2019 when they welcome the Wolverines of the University of Michigan to Gill Coliseum on January 3rd for the Joe Wells Classic at 7 p.m.
