Beavers Set to Close Out 2018 Home Schedule with South Dakota State

CORVALLIS – The Oregon State wrestling team remains in Corvallis this week as they welcome Big 12 opponent South Dakota State to Gill Coliseum for a nonconference dual beginning at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Beavers in the Ranks
The Beavers are ranked as highly as No. 10 in the tournament rankings by FloWrestling, which are based on how many advancement and placement points a team would get at NCAA Wrestling Championships.

There was a new addition for Oregon State in a couple of the individual ranking publications released this week. Heavyweight Amar Dhesi debuted at No. 1 in both the TrackWrestling and FloWrestling rankings. Three individuals have been ranked all season long for the Beavers, and their current highest rankings follow: No. 3 125-pounder Ronnie Bresser, No. 15 157-pounder Hunter Willits, and No. 20 197-pounder Corey Griego.

Last Time Out
Oregon State opened its dual meet schedule at home last Sunday against the Pac-12's California State Bakersfield, and came away with a 20-17 win over the Roadrunners. Bresser (125), Grant Willits (141), H. Willits (157), Aaron Olmos (165), and Bob Coleman (197) each earned victories in their respective weight classes. The Beavers have won their dual-meet opener since 2016 marking three straight victories.

South Dakota State
South Dakota State is 0-3, 0-1 Big 12 in dual meets on the season thus far. The Jackrabbits are coming off a three week break since their las dual with saw them drop a 35-6 contest to Minnesota. SDSU had two ranked wrestlers; No. 1 Seth Gross (133) and No. 18 Henry Pohlmeyer (149) according to InterMat.

G. Willits won his varsity dual debut with a pin on Sunday against CSUB. Bresser currently sits at 99 career wins; he would be the 26th in Oregon State history to reach 100 career wins.
