Beavers Set to Race at Head of the Lake
November 01, 2018 | Men's Rowing
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State men's rowing team heads to Seattle this Sunday to compete in the 39th Head of the Lake Regatta, hosted by the Lake Washington Rowing Club and the University of Washington.
The Beavers are entering six boats in total on Sunday. Comprised of eights and fours, OSU is entering one V8, one JV8, one 3V8, as well as three V4 entries. The eights will begin racing at 8 a.m., with the fours scheduled to begin at 9:52 a.m.
Last year, in a weather shortened event, Oregon State took home third place finishes in both the varsity 8+ and the junior varsity 8+.
The Head of the Lake is a three-mile race with a wide turn near the finish. The race starts in Lake Union at the College Club dock and follows the shoreline heading north past Pocock Rowing Center and then turns under the University Bridge. It continues east through Portage Bay and through the Montlake Cut into Union Bay of Lake Washington.
The race course has viewing from the shore along most of its length. The best viewing spots are at the start near the College Club Boathouse, Pocock rowing Center, along the Montlake Cut, on the Montlake Bridge and at Ivar's on North Lake Union. Admission is free for the event.
Results can be found online at RegattaCentral.com and on OSUBeavers.com following the completion of the event.
