Beavers’ Capture Two Wins at Portland Fall Classic

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Oregon State women's rowing team wrapped up its fall season on Sunday at the Portland Fall Classic by picking up two wins. The Beavers took first place in the Women's Collegiate Division I JV 8+ and the Women's Collegiate/Open Novice 8+.
OSU had a quick turnaround after competing at the Head of the American in Sacramento, Calif. on Saturday. The Beavers weren't fazed as they picked up two more wins putting the total on the weekend at three.
In the JV8, Oregon State outpaced Washington State by more than 10 seconds for the win in just the second race of the day for the Beavers. Powered by Amelia Sabin, Becca Pritchard, Abbie Glickman, Alexis Heyerly, Taylor Pereira, Natalie Tercek, Maria Amundson, Mackenzie Rice, and coxed by Claire Iwata, OSU rowed the course on the Willamette River in 17-minutes 48.033 seconds. WSU finished with a time of 17-minutes 58.069-seconds.
The Beavers crushed the competition in their other win of the day in the Novice 8+. Manned by Becca Pritchard, Abbie Glickman, Hannah Robinson, Hannah Steitzer, Sierra Bishop, Taylor Pereira, Natalie Tercek, Maria Amundson, and coxed by Claire Iwata, OSU finished faster than three minutes ahead of second place Gonzage. The Beavs traversed the course with a final time of 18:48.607.
In the first race of the day, the V8, Oregon State placed second behind hometown rowers the University of Portland. The Beavers finished the race in 17-minutes 48.109-seconds, 13.990-seconds behind Portland. The V8 was comprised of Claire Williams, Holly Golightly, Liz Matzdorf, Shelby Larkin, Sierra Bishop, Claire Diller, Maddie Vinson, Gabriella Yakemow, and coxed by Cassy Lozano.
The Beavers entered two boats into the V4, claiming second place and fourth place overall. Washington State won the category, with Oregon State finishing with times of 18-minutes 24.655-seconds and 19-minutes 0.847-seconds, respectively.
In the JV4, Oregon State again had multiple entries finishing in third and fourth place with times of 19-minutes 17.632-seconds and 19-minutes 20.215-seconds. Washington State won the JV4 with a time of 18-minutes 41.379-seconds.
