Oregon State Women’s Rowing Opens Fall Season at Head of the American

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State women's rowing team opens its fall season this weekend in a big way with back-to-back events on Saturday and Sunday. The Beavers head to the Head of the American in Sacramento, Calif. on Saturday, before turning out and heading up to Portland for the Portland Fall Classic on Sunday.
The Beavers are entering boats in three categories at the Head of the American. The day will kick off for OSU in the Women's Collegiate 2-, followed by the Women's Collegiate 8+ and the Women's Collegiate 4+.
The event is held at Nimbus Flat State Park and racing takes place on Lake Natoma and features over 60 rowing clubs in attendance. Admission to the event is free for spectators, but there is a small fee for parking.
Race times for the Head of the American are still to be determined.
After the Beavers wrap up competition in Sacramento, they will head back to Corvallis before travelling up to Portland for the Portland Fall Classic.
OSU is entering seven boats into five different categories on Sunday; Women's Collegiate Division I Varsity 8+, Women's Collegiate Division I JV 8+, Women's Collegiate Varsity 4+, Women's Collegiate JV 4+, and Women's Collegiate/Open Novice 8+.
The varsity 8+ is scheduled to begin at 8:36 a.m., and is quickly followed by the junior varsity 8+ at 8:38 a.m. The 4+ boats will begin rowing at 10:58 and 11:00 a.m., with the novice 8+ wrapping up the day at 11:17 a.m.
The 5,000-meter course is on the Willamette River and the head race runs behind the east side of Ross Island, ending just before the Steel Bridge. There is fantastic viewing on the sidewalks of the Hawthorne Bridge or anywhere along the Eastbank Esplanade. Admission to the event is free, however parking for the event is available for $10.
