Beavers Head to Desert to Face Cats and Devils

ON TAP
• Oregon State takes to the road to open the second half of the Pac-12 season in the desert against No. 23 Arizona and Arizona State.
• OSU (10-12, 0-10 Pac-12) takes on No. 23 Arizona (16-6, 5-5) Friday night at 7 p.m. PST.
• The Beavers return to the court Sunday when they head up the road to Arizona State (13-9, 4-6) for a noon first serve.

• Sunday's match against the Sun Devils will air on Pac-12 Oregon.

AGAINST THE WILDCATS
• The Beavers are 17-48 in the series against Arizona. OSU swept the Wildcats twice in 2017, but fell in three sets to the Cats earlier this season in Corvallis.
AGAINST THE SUN DEVILS
• Oregon State is 21-44 all-time against ASU. The Beavers beat the Sun Devils in both meetings last season for the first time since 2014. OSU had won five of the last seven matchups prior to getting swept earlier this season by ASU.
LAST WEEKEND VS. THE BAY AREA TEAMS
• Oregon State opened the weekend stealing the opening set against No. 2 Stanford, 26-24. The Cardinal took the next two sets to take the lead and the Beavers seemed on the verge of forcing a fifth set before Stanford secured the match 25-23.
• Friday's match marked the first time since 2014 that OSU had taken a set from Stanford.
• Three Beavers reached double figures in kills with Amy Underdown leading the offense with 15 against the Cardinal. Grace Massey collected 21 digs in the contest.
• The Beavers fell to California in three on Sunday.
• Underdown again led the Beavers with 14 kills while Maddie Goings added 13 kills.
TOP OF THE PAC
• The Beavers rank second in the Pac-12 and 28th in the nation with 2.58 blocks per set in 2018. Middle blocker Lindsey Schell ranks ninth in the conference with 1.15 blocks per set and Maddy Gravley (1.10) is 12th.
• Libero Grace Massey ranks fourth in the Pac-12 with 4.59 digs per set. She has led, or tied for the lead, the Beavers in digs in 20 out of 22 matches in 2018.
• Defensive specialist Kayla Ellis is sixth in the league with 0.36 aces per set (13 total) since Pac-12 Conference play began.
ACES
• Sophomore libero Grace Massey was named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week following the opening week of the season. Massey accumulated a conference-high 65 digs at the Iowa State Challenge and was named as a tournament co-MVP.
• Freshman setter Maddie Sheehan was named as the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week following the SDSU/USD Challenge. Sheehan tied her career-high with 44 assists and added career-bests with six kills and five blocks in a win over No. 23 San Diego.
• Senior Kayla Ellis ranks fourth on OSU's all-time list with 1,383 career digs. She remains within striking distance of third (Tricia Becker, 1,483) late in the season.
ON THE SIDELINE
• Senior Kory Cheshire is out for the season due to an undisclosed injury.
• Senior outside hitter Shekinah Clarke will miss the remainder of the season due to a knee injury.
• Both will apply for another year of eligibility and intend to return to the program in 2019.
HALL OF FAME
• Last weekend was the OSU Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2018 induction.
• Among this year's inductees was the 1969-70 and 1970-71 Oregon State volleyball teams.
• The 1969-70 team captured the Pacific Northwest Trophy and won their first 21 matches. The team finished 23-3 making it to the "Sweet 16."
• The 1970-71 team gained momentum at the end the of the season and advanced to the "Elite Eight" going 5-1 in the postseason for an overall mark of 22-8.
• Both teams were honored on the court during Sunday's match against California.
ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAMS
• SDSU/USD Challenge - Amy Underdown was chosen as the MVP after leading the team in kills in each match as the Beavers went 3-0 including a five-set upset of No. 23 San Diego. Maddy Gravley was also named to the all-tournament team.
• K-State Invitational - Haylie Bennett and Maddie Sheehan were named to the all-tournament team.
• Iowa State Challenge - Maddie Goings and Lindsey Schell were each named to the Iowa State Challenge All-Tournament Team and Grace Massey was selected as a tournament co-MVP on the season's opening weekend.
