Beavers Seek First Pac-12 Win in Los Angeles

ON TAP
• After playing four of their last five matches at home, the Beavers begin a four-game stretch on the road, first with a trip to L.A. this week and then the mountain trip next week.
• Oregon State (10-6, 0-4 Pac-12) opens the week in search of its first conference win of the season at No. 12 USC (11-4, 3-1) at the Galen Center on Thursday at 7 p.m.
• The Beavers will head for Westwood to take on No. 17 UCLA (7-4, 2-2) at Pauley Pavilion on Saturday at 7 p.m.

AGAINST THE TROJANS
• USC leads the all-time series 53-9. The Beavers will seek their first victory over the Trojans since a four-set win in 2014. The teams met only once in 2018 with USC taking the match in L.A. 3-1.
AGAINST THE BRUINS
• The Beavers trail the series with UCLA 3-59. OSU's last win over the Bruins came in a five-setter in 2007 at Pauley Pavilion.
A COMPARISON TO 2017
• Oregon State opened the season going 10-2 in the non-conference season ... OSU was also 10-2 in the preseason in 2017.
• OSU has struggled to open the Pac-12 slate, going 0-4 ... the Beavers also began the 2017 conference schedule 2017.
• In 2017, the Beavers went on the road for the third week of the conference season upsetting then-No. 14 Washington in Seattle in five sets, then went on to defeat WSU in five in Pullman, changing the course of the season.
• Oregon State went on to reach the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in program history.
AHEAD OF THE PAC
• The Beavers rank second in the Pac-12 with 2.82 blocks per set in 2018. Middle blocker Lindsey Schell ranks fifth in the conference with 1.29 blocks per set. In addition, Maddy Gravley (1.13), Serena Bruin (1.00) and Haylie Bennett (1.00) all average at least a block per set.
• Libero Grace Massey ranks third in the Pac-12 with 4.68 digs per set. She has led the Beavers in digs in 14 out of 16 matches in 2018.
• Defensive specialist Kayla Ellis is second in the league with 0.47 aces per set (seven total) since Pac-12 Conference play began two weeks ago.
ACES
• Sophomore libero Grace Massey was named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week following the opening week of the season. Massey accumulated a conference-high 65 digs at the Iowa State Challenge and was named as a tournament co-MVP.
• Freshman setter Maddie Sheehan was named as the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week following the SDSU/USD Challenge. Sheehan tied her career-high with 44 assists and added career-bests with six kills and five blocks in a win over No. 23 San Diego.
• Senior Kayla Ellis once again moved up OSU's all-time rankings to fourth with 1,333 career digs. She remains within striking distance of third (Tricia Becker, 1,483) late in the season.
ON THE SIDELINE
• Senior Kory Cheshire is out for the season due to an undisclosed injury.
• Senior outside hitter Shekinah Clarke will miss the remainder of the season due to a knee injury.
• Both will apply for another year of eligibility and intend to return to the program in 2019.
• Haylie Bennett suffered an injury in the match at Oregon (9/20) and is considered week-to-week.
OFF THE SIDELINE
• Freshman outside hitter Kyla Waiters made her collegiate debut in against Washington. Waiters came on midway through the fifth set when the Beavers were seeking a spark ... last week, Waiters recorded the first kills of her career against Arizona.
ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAMS
• SDSU/USD Challenge - Amy Underdown was chosen as the MVP after leading the team in kills in each match as the Beavers went 3-0 including a five-set upset of No. 23 San Diego. Maddy Gravley was also named to the all-tournament team.
• K-State Invitational - Haylie Bennett and Maddie Sheehan were named to the all-tournament team.
• Iowa State Challenge - Maddie Goings and Lindsey Schell were each named to the Iowa State Challenge All-Tournament Team and Grace Massey was selected as a tournament co-MVP on the season's opening weekend.
