
Get to Know You: Alysha Everett and Katy McJunkin

Everett and McJunkin are seniors for the softball program
For the weeks leading up to the regular season, fans will get a chance to learn about every member of the 2017-18 Oregon State softball team.
This week, we meet up with Alysha Everett and Katy McJunkin in their final season for Oregon State. Everett is an infielder from Trabuco Canyon, Calif., and McJunkin is a catcher from Visalia, Calif.
Why did you choose Oregon State?
Alysha Everett: I fell in love with the campus.
Katy McJunkin: I chose Oregon State because of the beautiful campus.
What do you enjoy about your major?
AE (BioHealth sciences and nutrition): In BioHealth, I like the idea that there is still so much to learn and discover. In nutrition, I love learning about the effects of food on overall health and how in contributes to disease.
KM (HDFS): I love that my major is mainly about helping people. My passion is to work with kids and help inspire the next generation.
What do you like most about playing softball?
AE: The challenge. Softball is a sport where failing 70% of the time still makes you a really good player.
KM: I love how competitive the game is. On any given day, any team can win.
What is your favorite thing about playing for Coach Berg?
AE: Her intensity. She never backs down from a challenge and she inspires me to be the best I can be in everything I do.
KM: My favorite thing about Coach Berg is her intensity and passion that she brings to the game.
What does your uniform number mean to you?
AE (5): It was the first number I was given and I've had it ever since.
KM (13): I have been #13 since I was in high school, so it's bittersweet that I get to finish my senior year with my favorite number.
What are the team goals for this season?
AE: OKC!
KM: To be ranked top three in our conference and then make it to OKC.
What is your personal goal for the season?
AE: I want to be the best teammate possible and push my teammates to be the best they can be.
KM: My personal goal for this season is to be the best teammate and to do my job when called upon.
What athlete did you idolize growing up and why?
AE: I loved watching Jessica Mendoza play. She is so talented and I learned so much from watching her.
KM: I loved watching Derek Jeter play. He is an amazing athlete and was such a threat on the field and in the batter's box.
What age did you know you wanted to play softball in college and what made you realize that?
AE: I was 12 and one of my teammate's older sister had just committed to the University of Washington for softball. This opened my eyes and inspired me to also play in college.
KM: I was 12 when I knew I wanted to play in college. What made me realize this was the passion I had for the game and never wanting it to end.
What song/band is most likely to be playing on your phone?
AE: Christmas music or early 2000's hits.
KM: I listen to all sorts of music. It just depends on my mood that day.
Do you have any pregame rituals or traditions?
AE: I listen to music on the way to the field and mentally prepare.
KM: I chew gum all the time, before and during the game. It relaxes me and makes me fell focused.
What current show could you see yourself being a part of?
AE: Mythbusters.
KM: Say Yes to the Dress.
What is the best thing about living in Corvallis?
AE: I like the small town feel. Football games are always fun to go to and it's nice to see support from the town.
KM: I love living here because we get all the seasons.
What is your biggest phobia?
AE: Heights.
KM: Haunted Mazes, spiders, heights, anything scary.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
AE: Depends on the day. Some days I enjoy grabbing a book and relaxing, other days I like going to the coast, hiking or go shopping with a few friends.
KM: Reading a romance book or watching Netflix.
What is your favorite place on campus to hang out?
AE: The locker room.
KM: My house.
