Beavers’ 3V8 Wins in Semi-Final on Day 2 of IRAs

GOLD RIVER, Calif. – Oregon State's Third Varsity 8 outraced the competition in its semifinal on day two of the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Championships Saturday.
The Beavers' 3V8 powered by Alex Carlton, Jacob Hart, Will Johnson, Zach Fried, Grant Van Kampen, Roman Pjajka, Torin Kingshill, and Brad Vomocil, and directed by Ercoli Crugnale, posted the fastest time by a 3V8 of the day at 5-minutes 58.015-seconds. The OSU crew bested second place George Washington by a full second and a half (5:59.515) to secure a spot in Sunday's Third Final.
OSU's Varsity 4+ crew made a dramatic move coming from behind to finish second in semifinal racing. The V4+ crew of Henry Hebson, Nick Kapoulas, Max Hayes, and Ezra Glickman, and coxed by Shane Parrott, covered the 2,000-meter course with a time of 6:39.051 to finish more than two-seconds ahead of Penn. The V4+ will also race Sunday in the Third Final.
The Varsity 8 raced to a fourth-place finish coming in less than a second behind Drexel with a time of 5:53.191 to 5:52.272.
OSU's Second Varsity 8 finished in fifth place in its semifinal with a time of 6:04.396, a half-tenth of a second behind Florida Tech, which covered the course in 6:04.350. Both crews will race in the Fourth Final.
The Beavers return to action tomorrow with racing starting at 8 a.m. for the final day of the IRA Championships.
