GOLD RIVER, Calif. – The Oregon State men's rowing team advanced to semi-finals after day one of the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Championship.
The Beavers' Varsity 8 crew, ranked No. 18, finished the course on Lake Natoma Friday morning in 5-minutes, 57.881-seconds in fifth place. The V8 came back in the fourth afternoon repechage clocking a time of 6:02.277.
The Orange and Black's Second Varsity 8 beat UC San Diego by nearly 10-seconds with time of 6:08.270 to 6:18.563 to finish fifth in heat one. In its afternoon repechage, OSU hit the water against Cornell, Wisconsin and St. Joseph, covering the 2,000-meter course in 6:11.079 to pull in third.
The Third Varsity 8 crewed by Alex Carlton, Jacob Hart, Will Johnson, Zach Fried, Grant Van Kampen, Roman Pjajka, Torin Kingshill, and Brad Vomocil, and coxed by Ercoli Crugnale, finished fourth clocking a time of 6:10.696, beating UC San Diego by almost 18-seconds. The 3V8 had the Beavers best finish of the day in repechage two, taking third and finishing in 6:17.429.
Oregon State's Varsity 4+ finished the morning session with a time of 6:48.704. The Beavers beat Gonzaga with a time of 6:58.871 to 7:07.829, to finish fourth in its repechage.
The Beavers return to semi-final action tomorrow with racing starting at 8 a.m. for day two of the IRA Championships.
