Last Game
Jake Thompson spun 7 2/3 scoreless innings and Steven Kwan went 3-for-4 and tallied a seventh-inning two-run single to pace the Beavers past Washington, 3-0, on Saturday in Seattle. Thompson picked up his eighth win of the season, while Kwan finished with his first multi-RBI effort of 2017. OSU took the series with the win.
At The Halfway Point
Oregon State is opening its second-half of Pac-12 Conference play when taking on the Bruins, and holds a five-game lead over second-place UCLA and Arizona. OSU is taking on No. 2 in the standings for the second consecutive week - the Beavers took 2-of-3 from then-second place Washington last weekend, which moved the Huskies to fourth.
Three Of The Top Seven
Oregon State sports the nation's lowest earned run average at 1.74, so it should come as no surprise that three of the team's pitchers rank in the top seven individually. Jake Mulholland is first at 0.55, followed by No. 2 Luke Heimlich (0.83). Jake Thompson is seventh with a 1.03 ERA.
Last Trip Out Of State
The series with UCLA marks the final trip out of the state of Oregon for OSU during the regular season. The Beavers have 15 home games remaining, three at Oregon in Pac-12 play and then a non-conference game with Portland in Keizer on May 16.
Singles
• Speaking of ERA, the Beavers are the nation's lone team with a sub-2.00 ERA. Only 10 teams overall have an ERA lower than 3.00.
• OSU has outscored opponents in every inning but the fifth, where teams have 11 runs to the Beavers' 10. OSU has a plus-20 or more advantage in the first (29), sixth (21) and seventh (25) innings.
• The Beavers are the nation's consensus No. 1 team for the fourth consecutive week.
• OSU has won the conference opener over the Bruins in each of the last three seasons. The Beavers swept two of those series, and went 1-2 in 2015.
• Saturday's game will air on KEX 1190 AM in the Portland region.
