Wiese Named Pac-12 Scholar Athlete of the Year

Beavers Take Honor For Second-Straight Year
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Senior Sydney Wiese earned yet another piece of off the court recognition Friday, as she was named Pac-12 Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Oregon State has crowned the Pac-12 Scholar Athlete of the Year in back-to-back years, after Ruth Hamblin earned the honor last season.
A speech communication major, Wiese is a Senior CLASS Award Finalist, two-time Pac-12 All-Academic honoree and an Academic All-America selection. The senior has launched her own web series in conjunction with Oregon State gymnast Megan Jimenez, and hopes to go into broadcasting at the conclusion of her playing career. She has also worked extensively in the community, donating her hair in a special Haircuts for Cancer ceremony last week, and participating in a Candlelighters for Cancer fishing trip over the summer.
Wiese is one of 14 players in conference history to make the All-Pac-12 Coaches Team four times. The senior, who has already been named to the watch lists for the Wooden Award, Naismith Trophy, Wade Trophy, Ann Meyers Drysdale Award and Lieberman Award, is the Pac-12's career record holder for 3-pointers. The senior is already in the top-seven in Oregon State history in career points, and holds the school record for career assists. Wiese leads the Beavers with 15.4 points per game, as is among the top four in the nation in 3-point percentage.
Oregon State will head to the Pac-12 Tournament this week, after locking down the regular season title outright on Sunday. The Beavers will open the event at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, as they take on the winner of Thursday's game between USC and California.
