Beavers Set For Great 8 Collegiate Match Play

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State women's golf team is one of eight teams competing in the inaugural Gifford Great 8 Collegiate Match Play Monday and Tuesday in Los Angeles, Calif.
FIELD (8): The quarterfinals begin at 8:30 a.m. on Monday and include the following matchups: Oregon State vs. USC, Purdue vs. Ohio State, UCLA vs. Oregon and Georgia vs. Colorado.
FORMAT: Each team will play three match play matches. Quarterfinal winners and losers will play Monday afternoon. The championship, 3rd place, 5th place and 7th place matches will be Tuesday morning.
COURSE: The tournament will be held at the Brentwood Country Club.
BEAVERS' LINEUP: Oregon State will go with a lineup of senior Elyse Smidinger, juniors Susie Cavanagh and Hannah Swanson, sophomore Olivia Benzin and freshman Nicole Schroeder.
TEE TIMES: Oregon State and USC will start on the first tee at 8:30 a.m. on Monday.
LIVE SCORING: There will be live scoring for the tournament on birdiefire.com.

LAST TIME OUT: Olivia Benzin continued her strong play this season with her second consecutive even-par round of 72 to pace the Oregon State women's golf team last week in the final round of the Meadow Club Intercollegiate.
Benzin led the Beavers to their best overall round of the 54-hole tournament with a 4-over-par 292, moving OSU up the leaderboard to ninth place. The sophomore made two birdies Tuesday to move up four spots to finish 11th place. She fired rounds of 75, 72 and 72.
Nicole Schroeder shot one of the best rounds of the day and lowest for the Beavers during the event with a 2-under-70. She birdied three of the final four holes on the front nine and played even par golf on the final nine.
Her teammate Elyse Smidinger placed second for the Beavers at 226 and tied for the best scoring on the Par 5s overall in the field shooting a 6-under cumulative.
Schroeder tied for 51st overall, while fellow OSU players Hannah Swanson tied for 45th and Susie Cavanagh tied for 56th.
