Beavers Tied For Eighth Place In Arizona

PEORIA, Ariz. – Three Oregon State women's golfers shot a 1-under 71 in the first round of the Westbrook Spring Invitational on Sunday.
Sophomore Olivia Benzin and juniors Susie Cavanagh and Hannah Swanson opening the two-day, 54-hole tournament with a 71 at the par-72, 6,269-yard Westbrook Village Golf Club Vistas Course.
As a team, the Beavers concluded the 36-hole day with a 15-over 288-303--591 to sit in a tie for eighth place with host Wisconsin.
Kansas leads the 13-team field with an even-par 576, while Kansas State is second with a 2-over 578 and Illinois is third with a 4-over 580.
The final round will begin at 8:30 a.m. MT (7:30 a.m PT) on Monday and live scoring is available on birdiefire.com.
Benzin had four birdies in the first round and added two more in the afternoon to finish the day with an even-par 71-73--144 that's good for a tie for 11th place. She dominated the par-5's, posting a scoring average of 4.50, the second best in the 76-player field.
Cavanagh had five birdies in the opening round and one in the second to put her in a tie for 27th place with a 3-over 71-76--147. Swanson had a relatively clean scorecard in the morning with two birdies, 15 pars and one bogey and is tied for 58th with a 10-over 71-83--154.
Senior Elyse Smidinger had four birdies over the two rounds and is tied for 47th with a 7-over 75-76--151, while freshman Nicole Schroeder is tied for 54th with a 9-over 75-78--153.
Isabella DiLisio of Notre Dame has a three-stroke lead over four golfers after posting a 6-under 68-70--138.
