Beavers Head to Pac-12 Championships Wednesday
February 21, 2017 | Women's Swimming
CORVALLIS, Ore. — After being idle from competition for nearly a month, the Oregon State women's swimming team will travel to Federal Way, Washington to compete at the Pac-12 women's swimming championships that begin on Wednesday.
This will be the first championships for head coach Jennifer Buffin and freshman stand out Felicia Anderson. Anderson, a communications and business major has already made her footprint in the Oregon State record books. The Portland, Oregon native holds the No. 7 fastest time in the 100-backstroke (55.65) and the No. 4 time in the 200 (2:00.06). She has also placed in the top-three 30 times in events she has swam this season, including 10 first-place finishes.
Other standouts include senior Andrea Young who also has made her mark in the Oregon State swimming record books. The Vancouver, Washington native holds, not two or three records, but four top times for the Beavers in different events. She shares the No. 7 fastest time in the 100-breastroke (1:03.10), the No. 6 time in the 200-breastroke (2:17.27), the No. 7 time in the 100-butterfly (55.08) and the No. 8 fastest time in the 200-IM (2:02.76). The business management major holds the fastest team time in all four events this season as well.
Senior sprinters Anni Hecker and Sophie MacEwan will head back to Federal Way in search of scoring points for the Beavers. Both have written their names in the all-time top-10 at Oregon State in the 50-freestyle event. MacEwan, a native of Palm Springs, California shares the No. 9 fastest time (23.45), while Hecker has the No. 8 fastest (23.44). Hecker also holds the No. 10 fastest time in the 100-freestyle (51.09).
Fellow senior, Czsarina Isleta, is no stranger to the Pac-12 Championships, as the San Jose, California native is the lone returner on the team that recorded points in an individual event for the Beavers in last season's Pac-12 Championships. Isleta, a kinesiology and pre-nursing major, tallied seven points for Oregon State after finishing in 18th place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.00.
