Bresser Takes Home Silver at 55th Ken Kraft Midlands Championships

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. – Redshirt junior Ronnie Bresser made it to the finals of the Midlands Championships for the second time in his career. The Klamath Falls native dropped a 2-1 decision to No. 2-ranked Nick Suriano of Rutgers in the championship bout at the Sears Centre on Saturday evening.
Bresser punched his ticket to the finals by beating two-time Junior World Champion Spencer Lee of Iowa in a thrilling 3-1 decision. He finished the tournament with a 4-1 record, tying his highest ever finish at the Midlands.
Redshirt senior Amar Dhesi won his first consolation match on day two against Buffalo's J. Gunning, using a 5-2 decision to secure a spot in a placement match. He lost to Y. Hemida of Maryland by fall in the subsequent consolation round, and took a medical forfeit in the 5th place bout earning his sixth place finish.
Redshirt senior Jack Hathaway made it to the second day of competition but lost a 2-1 decision to Y. Thomas of Northwestern. Freshman Hunter Willits also made it to the second day, but dropped his first match, losing a decision to A. Crone of Wisconsin.
Oregon State finished in 12th place with 47 points, a nine-place improvement from a season ago. Iowa was the team winner.

Oregon State begins Pacific-12 Conference action on the road against Arizona State on Saturday, Jan. 20. The Sun Devils were the 2017 Pac-12 Wrestling Champions.
This year's Pac-12 Championships are hosted by the Beavers on Feb. 25 in Gill Coliseum. The NCAA Championships are March 15-17 in Cleveland, Ohio.
