'Tis the Season for Giving
December 29, 2017 | Our Beaver Nation
Members of the Oregon State Football team gave of their time and money to help a family in need during this holiday season.
For the second year in a row, Oregon State Football student-athletes gave of their time and money to help a family in need during the holiday season. In conjunction with the Hope for Holidays program, our student-athletes set out to make a difference for a family with a child or children suffering from an illness.
Once the family was selected, the student-athletes were provided a wish list with gift ideas ranging from toothpaste to a Nintendo DS. Not only did the members of the football team offer their time to shop for the items, they also provided the funds to be able to purchase the items.Â
Over Thanksgiving break, each student was provided with per diem (per day) money for food. Once the money was in hand, they were asked to donate as much as they wanted to the project. Many of the student-athletes gave their entire per diem amount to the project and in the end, they had just over $1400 to spend on the family. Team members then volunteered to shop for the gifts, wrap them and deliver them to the family.
At Oregon State, we strive to provide our student-athletes with opportunities that will not only enhance their overall experience, but also provide them opportunities to make a positive difference in the world. These young men made a difference to this family during the holidays.
You make a difference to student-athletes like these, and many others, with your generous contributions to the Our Beaver Nation annual fund. Please consider making a year-end gift in support of these young men and women.
