Beavs Set to Host Orange & Black Exhibition Friday
December 12, 2017 | Women's Gymnastics
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State gymnastics fans will get their first look at the 2017-18 team this week at the annual Orange and Black Exhibition. The event is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at Gill Coliseum. Admission is free and the team will host a dance party and sign autographs following the event.
Â
"The Orange and Black Exhibition is always an important part of our preseason process," head coach Tanya Chaplin said. "It is a really fun event to get out in front of our fans and is just a fantastic opportunity for our newcomers to get experience performing in front of our fans in Gill Coliseum."
Â
The format for the exhibition features two squads – Orange and Black – with gymnasts competing head-to-head on each event. After each pairing, guest judges will determine the winner and points will be awarded accordingly. There will be 3-4 pairings per event.
Â
The panel of guest judges at each event will include a member of the media that regularly covers Oregon State Athletics, Oregon State coaches and administrators and OSU gymnastics alumni. The event will be emceed by OSU public address announcer Brian Brooks and will include interaction with the judges.
Â
The Beavers officially open their season Friday, Jan. 13 when they cross three time zones to meet Pittsburgh in the Keystone State. OSU opens its five-meet home slate two weeks later when it hosts Stanford on Saturday, Jan. 27 in Gill Coliseum.
Â
All-American Dani Dessaints, fellow senior Shireen Khamedoost, and Pac-12 All-Conference gymnast Mary Jacobsen are expected to lead a youthful team that includes 13 freshmen and sophomores. The squad, which returns 11 letterwinners from 2017 will be bolstered by the addition of five freshmen – Savanna Force, Lexie Gonzales, Niya Mack, Colette Yamaoka and Kaitlyn Yanish – and transfer Lacy Dagen.
Â
Season and single meet tickets for the 2018 season are available now at BeaverTickets.com, in person at the Gill Coliseum Ticket Office, or by calling 1-800-GO-BEAVS.
