Volleyball Adds Setter for 2018
December 11, 2017 | Women's Volleyball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State has officially added setter Montanna Gubrud, a two-time, Two-Year College All-American, to the volleyball program, head coach Mark Barnard announced Monday.
Â
"Montanna is a strong competitor with good on-court leadership ability," Barnard said. "She distributes a nice array of set types and puts hitters in a good position to score. She's a little more experienced and older and will be a great addition to the team."
Â
Gubrud, who hails from McMinnville, Ore., joins the OSU program following two outstanding seasons at Linn-Benton Community College in Albany where she holds the Roadrunners' all-time career assists record. She is a two-time AVCA Two-Year College All-America Second Team selection and is a two-time Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) First Team all-star. As a freshman, she guided her team to the NWAC championship match.
Â
A three-sport athlete at McMinnville High School, Gubrud, starred on the volleyball court as well as in track & field and also played two years of basketball; and was named the McMinnville High Female Athlete of the Year as a senior in 2016. A three-time all-conference selection, Gubrud was named a team captain as a senior and received Player of the Year honors from the News-Register.
Â
Gubrud won the state championship title in the long jump as a senior and owns the school record at 18-feet, 2-inches. She was the long jump district champion in 2013, 2015 and 2016. She was also a four-time all-league selection in the 100-meter hurdles.
