Beavers Conclude Fall Season At Pebble Beach
November 08, 2017 | Men's Golf
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – The Oregon State men's golf team wrapped up its fall season on Wednesday with a 12th-place finish at the Saint Mary's Invitational.
The Beavers concluded the three-day, 54-hole tournament with an 18-over 298-280-292--870 at the par-71, 7,002-yard Poppy Hills Golf Course.
"This was simply not acceptable today," Oregon State head coach Jon Reehoorn said. "We did a horrible job of managing our emotions after a poor shot. If you look at the scorecards you can see how often we followed a bogey with another bogey.
"As a team we have to be mentally better, not only from the aspect of handling adversity, but also just simply believing in our own abilities. It's not about what everyone else does or thinks about us. It's about what we do and how we control what we can control."
Freshman Spencer Tibbits led the Beavers for the fourth time in four fall tournaments, finishing in a tie for 32nd place with a 1-over 72-71-71--214. He finished in a tie for ninth at the Mark Simpson Invitational, sixth at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational and a tie for 12th at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational.
The Vancouver, Wash., native concluded the fall with a scoring average of 69.67.
Sophomores Shawn Lu and Kyosuke Hara both tied for 38th place with a 3-over 216, as Lu posted scores of 78-64-74 and Hara finished at 71-71-74. The two student-athletes both graduated from Moanalua High School in Honolulu, Hawai'i in 2016.
Junior Trevor Yu improved each round to finish in a tie for 73rd with a 12-over 77-75-73--225 and senior Jonas Liebich finished in a tie for 93rd with a 18-over 81-74-76--231.
USC won the team title with a 28-under 824 and the Trojans' Justin Suh claimed medalist honors with a 13-under 200.
The Beavers will start their spring season on Thursday, Feb. 1 at the Amer Ari Invitational in Waikoloa, Hawai'i.
