CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State junior 149-pounder Joey Delgado and sophomore 197-pounder Corey Griego are ranked by InterMat, The Open Mat and the Amateur Wrestling News this week.
Junior heavyweight Cody Crawford (13-4) is ranked 15th by The Open Mat following a strong performance at the Ken Kraft Midlands Championships at Northwestern University on Dec. 29-30. A former 197-pounder who has moved up a weight class this season, Crawford went 5-2 at the Midlands and placed seventh.
Delgado (11-6) is ranked No. 14 by The Open Mat and Amateur Wrestling News, and No. 19 by InterMat. He took sixth place at the Midlands after tweaking a knee and medically forfeiting the fifth-place match. He is expected to be in the lineup when the Beavers resume action on Jan. 13 with a dual at Northern Colorado.
Griego (13-7), who did not compete at the Midlands, is ranked No. 15 by The Open Mat and No. 20 by InterMat and by Amateur Wrestling News. He has also moved up a weight class this season after taking second in the Pacific-12 Conference and qualifying for the NCAA Championships at 184 pounds last season.
The Beavers were not ranked in the Top 25 in the most recent USA Today/National Wrestling Coaches Association's poll, which was released on Dec. 20.
Oklahoma State was ranked No. 1 by USA Today/NWCA, followed by Penn State, Iowa, Ohio State and Missouri. Future OSU opponents in the rankings were Rutgers (11), Stanford (16), Oklahoma (18), Arizona State (19) and Drexel (25). Future opponent Wyoming also received votes.
The Beavers conclude the Northern Colorado road trip with a dual at Wyoming on Jan. 15. They start Pacific-12 Conference action against Stanford on Jan. 30, 2017, at Gill Coliseum. They are five-time defending Pac-12 champions.
This year's Pac-12 Championships are Feb. 26, at Stanford. The NCAA Championships are March 16-18 at St. Louis.
