Beavers add graduate transfer, freshman

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State track & field program has added a graduate transfer and a freshman for the 2017 season, coach Kelly Sullivan announced Monday.
The newest Beavers are high jumper Rachel Proteau, a Kansas State graduate who set the Oregon 5A state record while at West Albany High School, and Dani Duran, a McNary graduate who placed second in the 300 hurdles at the 6A state meet as a senior.
Proteau competed from 2014-16 at KSU and graduated with a degree in biochemistry. She had college PRs of 5-11.25 outdoor and 5-9.25 indoors. She placed 13th in 2016, 12th in 2015 and third in 2014 at the Big 12 Conference Outdoor Championships and was seventh in 2016, 13th in 2015 and 10th in 2014 at the Big 12 Indoor Championships.
She was the Oregon 5A state champion in 2013 (6-1), 2012 (5-7) and 2011 (5-7) and holds the OSAAÂ record at 6-1. She was also the high jump champion at the 2013 USA Junior National meet, the runner-up at the 2011 Junior National meet, and took fifth place at the 2011 and 2013 Pan Am Junior Championships.
A pharmacy major at OSU, she earned first-team Big 12 Conference All-Academic honors in 2016, with a perfect 4.0 GPA. She also graduated from WAHS with a 4.0 GPA and was the class valedictorian.
Her father, Phil, is an OSU graduate and a professor of medical chemistry in the OSU College of Pharmacy. Her mother, Diane Nauman, is a pharmacist, and an OSU graduate.
Duran took second in the 300 hurdles at the 2016 6A state meet and seventh in the 400 at the 2013 state meet. Coached by former OSU 400-hurdles school-record holder Ken Scott, she has a PR of 44.37 in the hurdles and 58.60 in the 400. She also participated in gymnastics as a youth.
Proteau will make her OSU debut this weekend at the Washington Invitational at the Dempsey Indoor Center in Seattle.
