OSU Set for Orange and Black Meet

CORVALLIS, Ore. — The Oregon State swimming team looks to prepare for its 2016-17 season, as the Beavers are set to hold the Orange and Black swim meet this Saturday at the Osborn Aquatic Complex at 8 a.m.
Â
The intrasquad meet held at Osborn will feature evenly matched Orange and Black squads and will be led by the seniors on each team. Taylor Frank, Anni Hecker, Czsarina Isleta, Chelsea Chan and Maranda Alf-Huynh will lead the Black team, while Sophie MacEwan, Andrea Young, Brooke Meyer, Alice Ochs and Jesikah Cavanaugh will lead the Orange team.
Â
"The Black and Orange meet is an opportunity for the coaching staff to see how the team performs after the fall training camp, both teams will be competing against each other for the honorary title, but more importantly they are preparing themselves as a team for their first road competition a week later," Oregon State head coach Jennifer Buffin said. "The expectation is that this will be a competitive meet for both teams and we expect to see some good times this early in the season based on their training.Â
Â
The returners from last season are headlined by Isleta, who placed 18th in the 100-yard breaststroke finals at the Pac-12 Championships. The senior set a school record last season in the 100 IM with a time of 59.13 versus BYU on Nov. 14.
Â
Joining 19 returners from last season are three newcomers—Merritt Allen, Felicia Anderson and Molly Beamer—bringing the total to 22 athletes for the 2016-17 edition of the Beavers' swim team.
"The freshmen are coming in having posted top times in their respective events, which will make an immediate impact in both individual events and relays," said Buffin. "They are all local talent, which I am excited to bring to the program."
Â
All alumni, family and supporters of OSU swimming are invited to attend.
Â
Following the scrimmage, the Oregon State swimming team will begin its 2016-17 campaign on Friday, Sept. 30, as the Beavers head to Salt Lake City for a dual meet against Utah and BYU. The meet is slated to begin at 4:30 p.m., PT.
