Beavers Set For Season-Opening Tourney

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State women's golf team opens its 2016-17 season Monday and Tuesday at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic in Fort Collins, Colo.
It will be the head coaching debut for Dawn Shockley, who served as the Beavers' assistant coach the past two seasons. Kelly Kerkvliet, who competed for Oregon State from 2001-05 and was an assistant coach during the 2013-14 season, is back with the program as an assistant coach.
FIELD (17): Oregon State, Boise State, BYU, Colorado State, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Hawai'i, Indiana, Long Beach State, Nebraska, Nevada, Northern Colorado, Portland State, San Francisco, San Jose State, UC Irvine, Wyoming.
COURSE: The tournament will be held at the par-72, 6,364-yard Ptarmigan Country Club.
BEAVERS' LINEUP: Oregon State will go with a lineup of senior Elyse Smidinger, juniors Haley Nist and Hannah Swanson, sophomore Olivia Benzin and freshman Nicole Schroeder.
FORMAT: Two-day, 54-hole tournament with 36 holes of continuous play on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday. The top-four individuals from each five-member team with the lowest scores for each 18-hole round constitute the scoring members for that given round.
TEE TIMES: There will be a shotgun start at 8 a.m. MT (7 a.m. PT) on Monday and Tuesday.
LIVE SCORING: There will be live scoring for the tournament on birdiefire.com.

NEW FACES: The Oregon State roster includes six players with two newcomers, Susie Cavanagh, a transfer from UConn, and Nicole Schroeder, a freshman from Rocklin, Calif. Elyse Smidinger redshirted last season after transferring from the University of Denver.
ALL-ACADEMIC: Ashlee Pickerell and Hannah Swanson were both named to the Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team and Haley Nist received Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention recognition at the end of last season.
Pickerell, who graduated last spring, earned Pac-12 All-Academic honors for the third consecutive year for her 3.68 cumulative GPA in public health. She was also named an All-American Scholar by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) for the second consecutive year.
Swanson, a junior from Forest Grove, Ore., was named to the Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team in her first eligible year for a 3.57 cumulative GPA in business.
Nist, a junior from Meridian, Idaho, earned Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention honors in her first eligible year for a 3.33 cumulative GPA in pre-business.
