CORVALLIS, Ore. – Former Oregon State men's golfer Paul Peterson claimed his first victory on the European Tour by winning the Czech Masters on Sunday.
Peterson, who played for the Beavers from 2007-10, finished with a 15-under 72-70-64-67--273 at the Albatross Golf Resort in Vysoky Ujezd, Czech Republic to win by a stroke over defending champion Thomas Pieters of Belgium.
"It's a dream come true, honestly," Peterson said. "This is the best feeling in the world. My team and I have put in so much hard work and long hours by everybody and I'm just so happy. We had this as a goal this year and to be able to accomplish it means so much."
Peterson began the final round two strokes behind Pieters after equaling the course record on Saturday with an 8-under 64. He took the decisive lead when he birdied the par-3 16th hole and sealed the victory with a 17-foot birdie putt on the final hole.
"I'll remember that putt on the 18th the rest of my life," Peterson said.
The lefty from Salem, Ore., is currently ninth on Oregon State's career scoring average list at 73.12 and is sixth (71.85 in 2008-09) and tied for 14th (72.63 in 2009-10) on the school's single-season scoring average list. His best three-round collegiate score was a 7-under 203 at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic in the spring of 2008.
