Beavers' Varsity 8 Wins Semifinal
June 04, 2016 | Men's Rowing
WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The Oregon State Varsity 8 crew continued its solid championship racing Saturday morning winning the third semifinal on Day Two of the Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championship regatta.
The Beavers' win earned the crew a slot in the Third Final Sunday morning.
“That was the gutsiest race I've ever seen these guys row,” head coach Gabe Winkler said. “It was amazing to watch. They were at a 38-stroke rate for the whole piece.
“Sitting at the finish line, the friends and family of the Beavs were going crazy. I'm so proud of how they raced. There's one more tomorrow and they just keep getting better.”
The Orange & Black covered the course in a time of 5-minutes, 43.630-seconds, one of the fastest times of the crews qualified to the Third Final.
OSU concludes its season tomorrow with finals starting at 7 a.m. ET. The Beavers' V8 crew will race in the Third Final at 8:20 a.m. ET, with the Second Varsity 8 following immediately after at 8:28 a.m. and the Third Varsity 8 setting off at 8:36 a.m. ET
