Three from OSU Softball Named Pac-12 All-Academic
June 10, 2016 | Softball
SAN FRANCISCO – Three members of the Oregon State softball team received Pac-12 All-Academic honors, the conference and commissioner Larry Scott announced on Friday.
First baseman Natalie Hampton, second baseman Mikela Manewa and pitcher Bev Miller were honored, each receiving a Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention.
This marks the second academic honor for Hampton in 2016, as she earned a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection in May. Hampton's Pac-12 Academic Honorable Mention is also her second academic honor awarded by the conference, as she earned the same honor last season.
To be eligible for a Pac-12 All-Academic selection, a prospective recipient must be in at least her second year at her current institution, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better and appear in at least 50 percent of her team's games, unless limited by injury or illness.
Hampton, a redshirt junior, earned a 3.34 GPA in fisheries and wildlife science. The Antelope, Calif. native will return next year for her redshirt senior season after tying her own single-season school record with 50 RBI in 2016. Hampton hit .347 with nine home runs, 10 doubles and a .405 on-base percentage.
Miller posted a 3.31 GPA in bioengineering, while Manewa recorded a 3.03 GPA in public health. Both closed out their senior seasons as key contributors to the Beavers, as Miller went 13-10 with a 3.24 ERA in the circle, while Manewa hit .309 with four home runs, 10 doubles and 25 RBI en route to a selection in the 2016 National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) Draft.
On the field, the Oregon State softball team enjoyed one of its most successful campaigns in recent years, reaching the postseason for the first time since 2013. The Beavers finished the regular season 30-18-1, its best regular season finish by winning percentage (.622) since 2007. OSU finished with a final RPI of No. 29, and recorded wins over 2016 national champion Oklahoma and Women's College World Series participant UCLA, as well as NCAA Regional host institutions Kentucky and Washington.
