TUCSON, Ariz. – The Oregon State softball team fell to the No. 18/17-ranked Arizona Wildcats, 10-1, in five innings on Sunday in the rubber match of a three-game Pac-12 series at Rita Hillenbrand Memorial Stadium.
The Beavers (28-18-1, 7-14 Pac-12) were stymied by Arizona left-hander Danielle O'Toole (20-10), who allowed one run on three hits in a complete-game effort. The Wildcats' (34-18, 11-10 Pac-12) offense supported her with 10 runs on eight hits.
Senior righty Bev Miller (12-10) was charged with the loss for Oregon State, as she was on the hook for seven runs in a four-inning start. Southpaw Taylor Cotton did not factor into the decision but allowed three runs in relief.
Oregon State scored its lone run in the fifth inning, as first baseman Alysha Everett singled to drive in third baseman Madison Anthony, who reached on a one-out double. Catcher Kayleen Shafer accounted for the Beavers' third hit.
Arizona opened the game with three consecutive scoring frames, and got on the board first on a Mo Mercado solo home run in the first inning. The Wildcats' Katiyana Mauga also homered in the third, driving in two in a six-run frame.
Arizona made it a 4-0 game with a three-run double off the bat of Mandie Perez in the second inning.
