CORVALLIS, Ore. – Steven Kwan went 2-for-4 and robbed an extra-base hit in Oregon State's 7-4 loss to Oregon Friday night in the opening-game of the Civil War Series at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.

Kwan extended his hit streak to six games, where he is 10-for-15 with a double and a triple. He tripled in the fourth, then singled in the fifth.

The freshman also made a highlight reel catch in the third, robbing A.J. Balta of extra bases with a leaping catch in right center.

The Beavers (29-17 overall, 10-12 Pac-12 Conference) finished with eight hits off three Oregon pitchers. Michael Gretler collected two hits, while Kyle Nobach went 2-for-3.

Oregon State, down 1-0 after two, took a 2-1 lead in the fourth. Kwan's triple put him in scoring position for KJ Harrison, who blooped a single to center for his 40^th run batted in of the season. He later scored when Trever Morrison hit a sacrifice fly to center to give the Beavers the lead.

That lead, however, was short lived as Oregon (23-21, 11-11) scored two runs in each of the next two innings, then plated one in the seventh.

Nobach drilled a 1-0 pitch off reliever Brac Warren to net the Beavers two runs in the eighth, pulling Oregon State to within three, 7-4.

Travis Eckert was charged with the loss after allowing eight hits and six runs – five earned – in six innings. The right-hander dropped to 5-4 on the year.

Cole Irvin picked up the win for Oregon after holding the Beavers to seven hits and two runs in seven innings. He improved to 5-4.

John Pomeroy worked three innings to close out the game for the Beavers. The righty held the Ducks to one hit and one run while striking out three.

The teams continue the series Saturday with a 7:02 p.m. PT first pitch at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. The game will air live on ESPNU.
