CORVALLIS, Ore. – The No. 20 Oregon State men's rowing team heads north to Seattle to race Washington and Washington State Saturday morning. Three crews will represent the Beavers in the Emerald City including a Varsity 8, Second Varsity 8 and the Freshman Varsity 8.
“It is great to go up against the No. 2 crew in the country,” head coach Gabe Winkler said. “You get to test yourself against the best. It is a great rowing course with a lot of history. They are a strong program and we hope to hang with them.”
The Beavers' V8 is coming off a sixth place finish at the San Diego Crew Classic, while the 2V8 was fifth and OSU's Freshman 8 raced to a silver medal.
“Being so close to Cal, in San Diego, was a great standard for our freshmen,” explained assistant coach Dameon Engblom. “We look to do better against Washington this weekend.”
COURSE & VIEWING: The Montlake Cut course is a 2,000-meter course that provides excellent viewing. Three popular locations to watch racing are at the finish line, on Montlake Bridge and at the canoe house.
