Beavers Sweep Gonzaga in Final Home Race

VANCOUVER, Wash. – The No. 20 Oregon State men's rowing team swept four Gonzaga crews Saturday to complete a grueling recent schedule that has had the Beavers racing each of the past three weeks.
OSU's Varsity 8 began the morning with a 13-second win over the Zags covering the 2,000-meter course in 6-minutes, 32.3-seconds.
The Beavers' Junior Varsity 8 posted an impressive time of 6:26.6 cruising past the Gonzaga crew for an 18-second victory.
In the third race of the day, the Oregon State Third Varsity 8 rowed to another win for the Orange and Black in a time of 6:53.5 earning a 15-second win.
“This is a great way to cap the end of the season for varsity,” head coach Gabe Winkler said. “That crew had a powerful piece in the head wind. The times were slow but the effort was great. I am proud of the guys. Now we have three weeks until the Pac-12 Championships. We are going to go through a selection process and get the fastest boat out there that we possibly can.”
OSU finished the morning off racing two boats in the Novice 8 class, the Freshman 'A' boat crushed the course to a time of 6:39.3. To conclude the sweep, the Beaver's F8 'B' crew secured a second place finish to beat Gonzaga by almost four seconds with a time of 7:10.6 to end the day.
Oregon State is back on the water, May 7, at the Windermere Cup in Seattle, Wash.
