UPDATE: Racing times have changed to begin at 9 a.m. with the JV8, 9:20 for the V8 race and 10 a.m. for the 3V8/F8.
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State's men's rowing team gets its season started with four boats taking the waters of Dexter Reservoir against Stanford and Gonzaga Saturday, Mar. 5 beginning at 9 a.m.
“We had our spring kickoff banquet last weekend and had 300 people in attendance,” head coach Gabe Winkler said. “That is a great set up to start the season for us.”
“We've had a lot of training for a 6-minute piece and this will be the last crack at Stanford for our seniors in a head-to-head race.”
COURSE & VIEWING: The 2,000-meter sprint course can be viewed from start to finish. The finish line is approximately 500 meters past the main spectator area.
RACE TIMES: Racing is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. with the Junior Varsity 8 race. The Varsity 8's will start at approximately 9:20 to be followed by the Third Varsity 8/Freshman 8 race at 10 a.m.
GETTING TO DEXTER LAKE:From I-5 North or South:
Take Exit 188A Highway 58/Willamette Hwy – towards Oakridge
Follow Highway 58 east for approximately 13.5 miles
Left at Jasper-Lowell Rd (covered bridge is on the left-hand side right before the turn)
Follow Jasper-Lowell Rd. for 0.7 miles
Left on North Shore Dr.
North Shore Dr. turns into Pengra Rd.
Lowell Recreation Site is located 0.7 miles from turn on the left-hand side.

As Oregon State crew heads into their first race of the season, we take a closer look at Josh West, a senior for Los Gatos, California, who is majoring in business administration.

What do you want to do after you graduate from Oregon State?
I want to work in the music industry with a position focused in artist management.
Why did you choose to attend Oregon State?
I originally chose Oregon State for the athletic training program but realized after a few terms as I freshmen I was more interested in business rather than exercise and sport science.
What do you like best about your teammates?
What I like best about my teammates is that it feels more like a family than a team. You build a special relationship with guys from all different backgrounds and become as close as you would with family members.
What do you like best about your coaches?
The best thing I like about my coaches is that they treat us more like friends rather than athletes. There is a very strong connection between the coaches and the team. That creates a very laid back feel.
What do you like best about Corvallis?
What I like best about Corvallis is how local and connected everyone is. All of the activities are right on or near campus and there is such a great spirit about being a Beaver which is really cool.
If you could play a different college sport at Oregon State, what would it be and why?
If I could play a different college sport it would probably be soccer because I used to play it as a kid.
What is your best athletic achievement to date?
My best athletic achievement to date is being the first true freshman on the crew team to ever break 20 minutes on a 6k test.
What are your team and individual goals for the season?
My team goals for this season are to make the B final at IRA's and an individual goal is to make the varsity record board for a 2k test.
How important is it to take Stanford's shirt?
A Stanford shirt is incredibly important to me because I am one of the only ones on the team who doesn't have one.
What do you prefer head races or head-to-head races? and why?
I prefer head-to-head races because there is no other sport that you get so much anticipation and adrenaline rush as you do racing five feet away from your opponent.
