
Thomas Earns Academic Honor

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Oregon State senior 165-pounder Seth Thomas has earned first-team Pacific-12 Conference All-Academic honors for the second year in a row, Commissioner Larry Scott announced Thursday.
A graduate student in BioHealth Sciences, Thomas has a 4.0 grade-point average. A native of Myrtle Creek, Ore., who graduated from Roseburg High School, he was 22-11 in 2016, took third place at the Pac-12 tournament, and advanced to the NCAAs for the second year in a row.
Redshirt junior 133-pounder Joey Palmer earned honorable mention. The Covington, Wash., native, a graduate of Tahoma High School, had a 3.05 GPA in Human Development and Family Science. He was 26-12 this season, placed second at the Pac-12 tournament, and advanced to NCAAs for the second time in his career.
To be eligible for selection, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor. The Pac-12 All Academic regulations define a “starter or significant substitute” as having participated in 50 percent of a team's scheduled contests, except in unusual circumstances, such as injury.
