CORVALLIS – Oregon State seniors Samantha Siegner and Ruth Hamblin have both been named to the Pac-12 All-Academic First team, the conference office announced Thursday. Sydney Wiese made the All-Academic Second Team, while Beaver players earned a total of four honorable mentions.
Hamblin earned First Team Pac-12 All-Academic honors for the third-straight year, after being named a First Team Academic All-American last month. One of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award, Hamblin has posted a 3.85 GPA over the course of her four years, and completed her last set of finals last week. The 6-foot-6 Canadian is part of the Oregon State Experimental Sounding Rocket Association, and was a part of a group of students that launched a rocket over 21,000 feet in the air in February. On the court, Hamblin was named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year for the second-straight season. She sits among the top-10 in Oregon State history in career points and is closing in on the career rebounds record.
This year's honor is the first First-Team recognition for Siegner, who made the Second Team the last two years. Currently working on her graduate degree on Interdisciplinary Studies, the Albany, Ore. native completed her undergraduate coursework in just three years. Siegner currently holds a 3.89 GPA, and spends time interning with the Oregon State Athletics video department. The forward has missed just two games over the course of her collegiate career, and has played every position with the exception of point guard.
Wiese has made the Academic Second Team in both seasons she's been eligible. The junior has a 3.68 GPA as a Pre-Communication major. The guard has earned All-Pac-12 honors three straight years, becoming the 36th player in conference history to accomplish that feat. She is also Oregon State's all-time leader in 3-pointers made, and sits eighth in the nation in career 3-point percentage.
Sophomore Marie Gulich, senior Deven Hunter, senior Jamie Weisner and junior Gabriella Hanson all earned honorable mention.
The Beavers head to the Sweet 16 for the first time in 33 years this weekend, when they take on DePaul on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. For more information on the game, click here.
