Drew Rasmussen Named Pac-12 Pitcher Of The Week
March 14, 2016 | Baseball
SAN FRANCISCO – Sophomore Drew Rasmussen has been named the Pac-12 Conference's Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
The right-hander struck out a career-best 12 batters in the Beavers' 8-5 series-opening victory over visiting San Francisco on Friday. He worked six innings and scattered just two hits and a run, keeping the Dons out of scoring position until the sixth inning.
His 12 strikeouts surpassed his previous best of 10 against Washington State last season. The victory over Washington State last season, a perfect game, also led to his first career Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week honor.
The honor Monday is the second of Rasmussen's career.
A native of Spokane, Rasmussen is 3-0 this season and has a 3.20 earned run average over his first four starts. He's allowed 17 hits in 25 1/3 innings, adding 29 strikeouts, while opponents are batting just .195 against him.
Rasmussen's honor is the third of the season for the Beavers. Nick Madrigal and Logan Ice have also been named Pac-12 Players of the Week.
