
Softball Q&A: Gina Bond

CORVALLIS, Ore. – In the days leading up to the 2016 season, OSUBeavers.com will help you get to know the 2016 Oregon State softball team a little better with some Q&A sessions. Featured in today's Q&A is sophomore infielder Gina Bond.
Bond is set for her second season as a member of the Beaver softball team after coming to Corvallis from Canby, Ore. The sophomore drew a pair of walks over the course of four games last season, and knocked in her first collegiate RBI against North Dakota State on Feb. 12, 2015.
What is your favorite thing about being part of the program?
All of the friendships I have made since I've been here.
When did you know you wanted to play at Oregon State?
My sophomore year of high school.
How would you best describe the coaching staff?
Intense.
What trip are you most looking forward to this season?
Vegas!
Do you have any gameday rituals or superstitions? If so, what are some of them?
I always have to wear my hair in a bun.
Does the number you wear have any significance? If so, what is it?
I've always worn a number divisible by seven…but no real significance.
What's the one rule you would change in softball?
Infield pop flies.
If you could play any other position for one day, what would it be and why?
If I miraculously was good at pitching, I would be a pitcher because they're the center of attention.
What is your favorite sport to attend or watch outside of softball? Why?
Snowboarding and skiing. It's so amazing what the athletes are capable of doing.
Which of your teammates would be most likely to U.S. President or political office? Why?
Bev Miller. She's so smart and is a leader.
Which teammate would be most likely to be a coach one day? Why?
Lovie Lopez, because she's so calm and cool.
What's your favorite catchphrase that one of your coaches uses?
“Do something great!” or “make a great play, 'third'!” – head coach Laura Berg
What are your hobbies outside of playing softball?
Snowmobiling and hunting.
Describe a funny or interesting part of studying your major at Oregon State.
My NMC professor had a “handle bar” mustache, so that was pretty awesome!
When did you start playing softball and how did you get your start playing?
I started with baseball and eventually got into softball because faster & smaller = harder!
What sets softball apart from the other sports you enjoy?
The quickness and action. Something is always happening.
What advice would you give to a young athlete who has aspirations of playing sports at the collegiate level?
Work hard and make connections with people in the softball community.
Do you remember your first home run? If so, describe it.
No, I don't, but it was probably the coolest feeling in the world.
