
Oregon State Near Unanimous Choice To Win Pac-12

SAN FRANCISCO. – The fifth-ranked Oregon State baseball team received 98 of a possible 100 points and is the choice by the Pac-12 Conference's coaches to win the league in 2016.
The Pac-12 released the preseason poll on Thursday, and the Beavers received nine of a possible 10 first-place votes. UCLA and California each received one.
The Bruins are projected to finish second after receiving 89 points, while California (84) is slotted at No. 3. Oregon (71) is fourth, followed by USC (67), Arizona State (50) and Stanford (49). Washington (34) is projected to finish eighth, Arizona ninth (31), Washington State (17) 10th and Utah 11th (15).
Ten points are awarded for a first-place vote, nine points for a second-place vote, seven for a third-place vote, etc. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own teams.
Oregon State is a unanimous top eight team to open the 2016 season. The Beavers are ranked highest by D1Baseball.com, Baseball America and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), which all have OSU at No. 5.
OSU opens the 2016 season Feb. 19 against Ball State in Surprise, Ariz. The matchup opens an 11-game trip for the Beavers to open the year, with the first eight slated for Arizona and the final three for San Diego, Calif. The 2016 home opener is March 11 against San Francisco.
