Gardiner, Jacobsen Garner Pac-12 Weekly Awards

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Oregon State junior All-American Madeline Gardiner and freshman Mary Jacobsen have been named the Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week and Pac-12 Newcomer of the Week for February 17-22 when weekly honors were announced by the Pac-12 Conference office Tuesday.
Gardiner, who is majoring in exercise and sport science, helped lead the Beavers to their highest score of the season last Saturday in a 196.850-195.350 win over California. En route to securing victory, Gardiner won two individual titles with a career-high 39.475 in the all-around and a 9.90 on the floor exercise. Additionally, Gardiner tied her personal-best of 9.925 on the balance beam to finish second in the meet and also posted a team-best 9.850 on the vault, the meet's second-highest mark. The Cambridge, Ontario native is tied for 13th in the nation and second in the conference in the all-around as well as on the balance beam.
Jacobsen, who studies computer science, made the most of her two routines Saturday shattering her personal-mark on the uneven bars with a near-perfect routine to score 9.950, besting her previous mark of 9.825. Jacobsen, who hails from Puyallup, Wash., also led off the meet on the vault tying her career-best of 9.825 to set the tone for the Beavers in their victory over the Bears.
This is Gardiner's second Gymnast of the Week honor and Oregon State's 26th all-time. It is Jacobsen's first Freshman/Newcomer of the Week honor and Oregon State's third all-time. Gardiner was also named Gymnast of the Week in 2015 when she set what was then a personal best 39.450.
The Beavers, ranked No. 17 this week, are in the midst of a three-meet homestand. After beating California last Saturday, they'll face Stanford Monday, Feb. 29 and remain home later in the week, Friday, Mar. 4 to host Seattle Pacific and Ball State for Senior Night. Monday's meet will be televised on Pac-12 Networks.
