
McMillan Leads Beavers to 196.225 in LA

LOS ANGELES – Oregon State's No. 16 gymnastics team posted its second-highest score of the season Saturday night in a loss at No. 7 UCLA 197.475-196.225.
Junior Kaytianna McMillan led the Beavers with season-highs on all three of her events including securing the individual title on the uneven bars with a personal-best 9.925.
“We have to fight for every tenth (of a point) we can get,” head coach Tanya Chaplin said. “I'm really proud of how we performed tonight. Our warm-up was a bit shaky, but we took a deep breath and reminded each other to trust, believe and fight all the way through the competition. We'll look forward to a regular week and a return to Gill next week.”
Oregon State used a series of season-highs and personal-bests in the opening rotation helped push the Beavers to their highest bars score of the year (49.225). Junior Kaytianna McMillan secured the event title with a career-high 9.925 from the Beavers' anchor position. Junior Madeline Gardiner and sophomore Shireen Khamedoost set season-highs with matching scores of 9.850. Junior Silvia Colussi-Pelaez enjoyed her best performance of the season as well with a 9.80.
The Beavers also reached the 49-point mark on the floor exercise. McMillan, who returned to the OSU floor lineup for the first time since suffering a knee injury late in the 2015 season, scored a team-high 9.875, seniors Jamie Radermacher and Risa Perez posted scores 9.850 and 9.825 respectively to lead the squad.
Also registering a career-high tying mark was Megan Jimenez on beam (9.800) and Mary Jacobsen on vault (9.825) and floor (9.750). Taylor Ricci set a season-high on vault (9.825) while McMillan tied her season-best on beam (9.850).
The Beavers return to the friendly atmosphere of Gill Coliseum next Saturday, Feb. 20, for the first of three straight home meets, when they host California at 2 p.m.
