QUICKLY: Oregon State has equaled its best start since the 1984-85 team opened 11-1 (the 1989-90 and 2011-12 teams also started 10-2) ... The Beavers won their conference opener for just the third time since 1994-95 (2004-05 and 2010-11 were the others) ... Oregon State received four votes in this week's Associated Press Poll and three votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll ... Gary Payton II is one of only four players in the country leading his team in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals ... Tres Tinkle is averaging a team-best 16.8 points over the past five games ... Olaf Schaftenaar has made a 3-pointer in 11 consecutive games, just one game shy of the longest streak of his career ... Langston Morris-Walker is averaging 10.0 points and shooting 53.3 percent (8-for-15) from beyond the arc the past four games ... Oregon State had a season-low eight turnovers against Oregon ... The Beavers are outscoring their opponents 100-52 on fast break points.
THE SERIES: Oregon State and Stanford meet for the 140th time in history with the Beavers holding a 72-67 advantage, including a 38-26 edge in games played in Corvallis.
The Cardinal has won five of the past six meetings, including the only game between the teams last season. Oregon State held a 30-28 halftime lead, but Stanford erupted for a 47-18 advantage after the break to win 75-48 on The Farm.
The Beavers won the last meeting between the teams at Gill Coliseum, 81-72 on Jan. 9, 2014 when Roberto Nelson scored 21 points and Eric Moreland added a double-double with 17 points and 15 rebounds.
One of the recent games was an epic quadruple-overtime thriller that Stanford won 103-101 on Jan. 7, 2012 at Gill Coliseum. It was the longest game in Oregon State history and the only to go four overtimes in the 115-year history of the program.
A WIN OVER THE CARDINAL: If Oregon State defeats Stanford it will improve to 11-2 overall and 2-0 in Pac-12 play. It would also:
Be Oregon State's best start through 13 games since 1989-90 when Gary Payton was a senior. The 1989-90 team got to 15-2 before losing its third game.
Be the third time since 1992-93 that Oregon State started 2-0 in conference play (2004-05 and 2010-11 were the others).
Equal Wayne Tinkle's longest winning streak at Oregon State. The Beavers won five in a row last season (Mississippi Valley State, Portland, Mississippi State, Grambling State, DePaul).
