
Softball Q&A: Meehra Nelson

CORVALLIS, Ore. – In the days leading up to the 2016 season, OSUBeavers.com will help you get to know the 2016 Oregon State softball team a little better with some Q&A sessions. Featured in today's Q&A is freshman right-handed pitcher Meehra Nelson.
Nelson comes to Corvallis from her hometown of Simi Valley, Calif. An all-league pitcher of the year out of Westlake High School, Nelson finished her high school career with an ERA of 0.96.
What is your favorite thing about being part of the program?
The family that I have gained by being part of it.
When did you know you wanted to play at Oregon State?
When I took my visit to Oregon State.
How would you best describe the coaching staff?
Intense, but awesome.
What trip are you most looking forward to this season?
The Las Vegas trip.
What's the one rule you would change in softball?
The "drop third strike" rule.
If you could play any other position for one day, what would it be and why?
Catcher, so I could see what I put them through.
What is your favorite sport to attend or watch outside of softball?
Baseball and hockey.
Which of your teammates would be most likely to U.S. President or political office?
Mikela (Manewa).
Which of your teammates would be most likely to be a comedian?
Just about anyone on the team.
Which teammate would be most likely to be a coach one day?
Lovie (Lopez).
What are your hobbies outside of playing softball?
Watching Netflix and sleeping.
When did you start playing softball and how did you get your start playing?
I started playing when I was six. I played tee-ball with boys until I was eight.
What sets softball apart from the other sports you enjoy?
To me, it never gets boring.
What advice would you give to a young athlete who has aspirations of playing sports at the collegiate level?
Never give up.
