
Beavers Set For Sun Devils Thursday In Tempe

THE GAME: Oregon State (12-6, 3-4 Pac-12) heads to the desert this week, beginning with a stop at Wells Fargo Arena in Tempe to face Arizona State (11-9, 1-6) at 5:30 p.m. PT (6:30 p.m. MT) on Thursday.

vs. ARIZONA STATE: Oregon State and Arizona State meet for the 84th time with the Sun Devils holding a narrow 42-41 edge in the series. ASU has a 27-12 advantage in games played in Tempe, including seven consecutive wins. The Beavers' last victory at Wells Fargo Arena came on Jan. 13, 2007 (67-59).
The teams split last season with each winning on their home court. Wayne Tinkle picked up his first Pac-12 win on Jan. 8 when the Beavers held ASU to 20 first-half points en route to a 55-47 victory at Gill Coliseum. Malcolm Duvivier led Oregon State with 15 points, while Gary Payton II had 12 and Victor Robbins added 10. Shaquielle McKissic and Eric Jacobsen each had 11 points for ASU.
Arizona State bounced back to win three weeks later, 73-55, on Jan. 28 at Wells Fargo Arena in Tempe. Payton II scored a game-high 23 points, while Duvivier added 14 and Jarmal Reid came off the bench to score 13. McKissic led the Sun Devils with 17 points, Gerry Blakes had 12 and Bo Barnes chipped in 11 off the bench.
A WIN OVER THE SUN DEVILS: If Oregon State defeats Arizona State it will improve to 13-6 overall and 4-4 in Pac-12 play. It would also:
- Put Oregon State one game behind last season's record through 19 games. Last season's 14-5 start was its best since the 1989-90 team opened 16-3.
- Be the third time since 1992-93 that Oregon State was 4-4 or better after eight conference games (4-4 in 1998-99; 5-3 last season).
- Be Oregon State's first win over Arizona State in Tempe since 2007 and snap a seven-game road losing streak to the Sun Devils.
