Hamblin Named Candidate For Senior CLASS Award
January 19, 2016 | Women's Basketball
CORVALLIS – Oregon State center Ruth Hamblin has been selected as a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award, the award's foundation announced today.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Hamblin was a consensus preseason All-American headed into the 2015-16 campaign and has continued to build on an impressive career that saw her earn Pac-12 Player of the Year (media) honors last season. The 6-foot-6 Canadian, who was named to the Naismith Trophy Early Season Watch List in December, is the NCAA's active career leader in blocked shots with 344, a mark that is also second in Pac-12 history. Overall, Hamblin is averaging 11.4 points and 8.9 rebounds per game this season.
Over the course of her career, Hamblin has helped the Beavers reach new levels of success on the floor. Oregon State has been a fixture in the Top-25 during her time as an upperclassman, often cracking the Top-10, and the team has made a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances.
Off the floor, Hamblin has excelled as a Mechanical Engineering major. The senior has earned Pac-12 All-Academic First Team honors the last two years, and is currently on schedule to graduate from school at the end of winter quarter, one term short of four years. She was also highlighted by Chevron and Pac-12 Networks last season as part of their Human Energy Stories series, which highlights student-athletes majoring in science, technology, engineering and math.

The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2016 NCAA Women's Final Four®.
The 30 candidate field will be narrowed to 10 finalists in February, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select the candidate who best exemplify excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
The Beavers are on the road this week, as they head to the Rockies for games against Utah and Colorado.
