December 15, 2015 | Wrestling
Oregon State dropped out of the USA Today/NWCA Division I Coaches Poll on Tuesday but was No. 21 in InterMat's tournament rankings and No. 19 in InterMat's team rankings.
The Beavers (2-3), idle this past weekend, fell from No. 23 to also receiving votes in this week's poll with 22 points, seven fewer than No. 25 West Virginia, which OSU defeated 23-9 on Nov. 15. It is the first time all season they have not been in the Top 25.
Sophomore 125-pounder Ronnie Bresser (11-4) remained ranked No. 6 by InterMat and No. 7 by The Open Mat. He is 6-3 against ranked opponents this season.
Redshirt sophomore heavyweight Amarveer Dhesi (10-0) remained No. 5 in both the InterMat and The Open Mat rankings. Redshirt junior 133-pounder Joey Palmer (10-5) dropped three spots to No. 19 in The Open Mat rankings and dropped out of the InterMat's poll after being No. 20 in the Dec. 8 rankings.
Stanford was the only other Pacific-12 Conference team to receive votes in the USA Today/AWCA poll. Penn State stayed No. 1, followed by Iowa, Missouri, North Carolina State and Virginia Tech.
OSU resumes dual-meet action on Friday when it hosts Clackamas Community College in a 7 p.m. matchup at Gill Coliseum. The Cougars are one of the premier junior college programs on the West Coast.
